🥬 Lettuce
Lactuca sativa
Sow lettuce in small batches from February to August and you will cut fresh salad from May to November. In summer give it partial shade — heat makes it bolt to seed.

The tips that matter
- Transplant at the 4-5 leaf stage with the crown at soil level: planted too deep, lettuce rots.
- In summer, sow in the evening and in part shade: above 25 °C lettuce seed barely germinates.
- Cut loose-leaf varieties 3 cm above the soil — they regrow for 2-3 more harvests.
